Just Bubble: A Playful Display Font That Feels Like Real Branding

I opened a fresh brand board last week—no brief yet, just a quiet café in the neighborhood looking to refresh their identity. Not a big chain. No massive budget. Just warmth, local charm, and a desire to feel human again. And right there, in that first exploratory mood board, I dropped Just Bubble onto a mockup of their chalkboard-style menu sign. Instant lift. Like someone had turned up the light and added a smile.

Just Bubble is exactly what it sounds like: a display font with soft, rounded forms, generous spacing, and a gentle bounce in every letter. It’s not sharp or rigid—it’s chunky, friendly, and unapologetically cheerful. Think of it as the typographic equivalent of a well-worn sweater or a hand-poured latte with heart-shaped foam. It’s not trying to be serious—and that’s precisely why it works so well when seriousness isn’t the goal.

In practice, I used Just Bubble for the café’s new logo lockup. Not as the only typeface—but as the hero. Their name sits in Just Bubble, slightly kerned for rhythm, while the tagline uses a clean, warm sans serif (we went with a relaxed geometric sans in light weight). The contrast felt intentional, not forced: playful energy anchored by quiet clarity. On the storefront sign, it held up beautifully at 24 inches tall—no blurring, no awkward gaps between letters, just consistent bubbly presence.

What surprised me most was how well it translated across formats. Printed on kraft paper coffee sleeves? Charming. Rendered as an SVG in their website’s hero banner? Surprisingly crisp—even at larger sizes on retina screens. Used on a small Instagram story graphic announcing weekend specials? It stopped the scroll. Not because it’s loud, but because it feels *inviting*. That’s the power of a strong display font: it doesn’t shout—it leans in.

Let’s be clear: Just Bubble is a display font, not a workhorse. You wouldn’t set a full blog post or product description in it. But for short-form impact—logos, signage, packaging headers, social banners, event posters, or even custom stickers for takeaway cups—it shines. Its personality lands quickly and authentically, especially when your audience values approachability over austerity.

I tested it across three real touchpoints before committing:

  1. Business card mockup: At 10pt size, the lowercase ‘a’ and ‘e’ stayed legible, but anything smaller than 8pt started to lose definition. So we reserved Just Bubble for the name only—not contact details.
  2. Menu board layout: Paired with a soft serif for dish descriptions (think a low-contrast, slightly calligraphic serif), the hierarchy felt natural. Just Bubble said “this is who we are,” while the serif whispered “and here’s what we serve.”
  3. Instagram post series: For weekly “Meet the Barista” features, we used Just Bubble for names and a handwritten script for quotes. The combo felt handmade, not templated—exactly the tone the café wanted.

Pairing is where Just Bubble really earns its place in a brand system. It loves contrast. Try it with:

It doesn’t need ornate companions. In fact, the simpler the supporting typeface, the more Just Bubble’s character can breathe. I avoided pairing it with other bubbly or rounded fonts—that creates visual noise instead of harmony.

On licensing and technical notes: Just Bubble comes as a standard OTF/TTF package, includes uppercase, lowercase, numerals, and basic punctuation. No stylistic alternates or ligatures—but honestly, it doesn’t need them. Its charm is in its consistency, not complexity. It supports English and major Western European languages, which covered the café’s needs. And yes—it’s cleared for commercial use, including printed menus, branded merchandise, and digital ads. Always double-check your license, but this one plays nicely with real-world projects.

One thing I appreciated during testing: Just Bubble doesn’t try to be everything. It knows its role. As a display font, it thrives in moments of emphasis—not endurance. That makes it refreshingly honest. In a landscape full of “versatile” fonts that blur into background noise, Just Bubble stands out by staying true to its voice: bubbly, kind, and quietly confident.

For designers working with small businesses, creative studios, or makers launching physical products—Just Bubble is a thoughtful tool. It’s not about trend-chasing. It’s about matching typography to intention. When your client wants to feel welcoming, not polished; joyful, not flashy; authentic, not generic—this is the kind of display font that helps you deliver that feeling without over-explaining it.

I’ll keep Just Bubble in my go-to folder—not for every project, but for the ones where warmth matters more than width, and playfulness is part of the strategy. Because sometimes, the best branding decision isn’t the most complex one. Sometimes, it’s just a bubbly, chunky, utterly sincere typeface that says, “Hey—you’re welcome here.”
